Dr. Thomas Mitchell-Olds, professor of Biology, Duke University, visited Beijing Institute of Genomics (BIG) on Oct 11, 2011.

Prof. YU Jun, vice director of BIG, hosted the meeting with guest. Prof. Mitchell-Olds gave a presentation entitled “Evolution and phenotypic consequences of a cloned QTL”, introduced his research on the genes that affect ecological success and evolutionary fitness in natural environments. Both sides discussed on scientific topics and cooperation issues. Afterwards the guest visited the large-scale sequencing platform in the institute.

Duke researchers have made breakthroughs, including the biomedical engineering department's development of the world's first real-time, three-dimensional ultrasound diagnostic system and the first engineered blood vessels. In May 2006 Duke researchers mapped the final human chromosome, which made world news as the Human Genome Project was finally complete.
