2011 International Conference of Genomics (2011 ICG) held with the opening ceremony of Transformation Research Center for Northern Medicinal Species Genomics at South Lake Hotel in Changchun, China from Oct 23-24, 2011.

WANG Huawen, Vice Governor of Jilin Province, delivered an opening speech to the conference. Professor WANG Lixiang, Vice President of Changchun Branch, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), read the congratulatory letter on behalf of Prof LI Jiayang, Vice President of CAS. Prof. LI mentioned in the letter that “the development of genomics is currently in a critical stage, which is characterized by the following sings. First, large-scale sequencing is turned from one of the major goals of genomics research to a powerful approach to solve scientific problems. Second, genomics, bioinformatics and other related research areas are actively interacting and merging. Third, genomics is quickly expending from pure basic research to practical applications.” Prof. Li also expressed his best wishes for the every success of the 2011 ICG.

Prof. YU Jun, President of the 2011 ICG and Vice Director of Beijing Institute of Genomics(BIG), CAS, gave a welcome speech to all the participants. Later, WANG Lixiang, together with LIU Baowei, the Municipal Communist Party Secretary of Tonghua City, presented the unveiling ceremony of Transformation Research Center for Northern Medicinal Species Genomics.

Over 200 scientists from around the globe attended the conference. 2011 ICG focused on “The Opportunities and Challenges in Genomics Era”, including four major topics:(1) Bioinformatics and Computational Biology; (2) Genome Sciences;(3) Genome Technology; (4) Genome Transformation and Applications.

2011 ICG successfully provided a communication opportunity for China and international scientists from Genomics, Bioinformatics, and other related fields. During the conference, scientists shared the top-edge ideas and research achievements which will promote the progress in genomics and further the scientific collaborations.
