GPB Editorial Board Member Dr. Tomas Lindahl won 2015 Nobel Prize in Chemistry

Congratulations on Dr. Tomas Lindahl, Editorial Board Member of the journal Genomics,Proteomics & Bioinformatics (GPB), for winning the 2015 Nobel Prize in Chemistry along with Drs. Aziz Sancar and Paul Modrich for their independent works on the "mechanistic studies of DNA repair", as announced by the Nobel Committee for Chemistry on Oct 7th, 2015.

In 2009, Dr. Lindahl joined the editorial board of GPB, the official scientific journal of Beijing Institute of Genomics (BIG), CAS and Genetics Society of China. He has committed to helping improve the journal’s quality and awareness by serving as an editor, author, and reviewer. In his Lifetime Achievement Review—My Journey to DNA Repair that was first published on GPB in 2013, Dr Lindahl provided a sketch for the development of his personal career and the field of DNA repair since the early 70s. Thanks to his longstanding interest and dedicated work in understanding fundamental DNA repair mechanisms, enormous discoveries have been made in the fields of cancer therapy, and ancient DNA.

“I feel very lucky and privileged to be included in the top class that was awarded (for DNA repair research)”, Dr. Lindahl expressed in a telephone interview right after the Nobel Prize announcement.

Dr. Lindahl visited BIG a couple of times in the recent years. “In addition to his contribution in science, he is always an enthusiastic advisor and strong supporter for talented young scientists in life science and chemistry”, Dr. Yun-Gui Yang, Associate Editor-in-Chief of GPB and Professor at BIG, talked about his postdoctoral life in Dr. Lindahl’s lab.

“I still enjoy very much doing science. It is pleasure, it is very interesting and it is stimulating. It changes all the time. I would like to be here around hundred years to see how science develops.” says Dr. Lindahl in My Journey to DNA Repair.
