BIG Delegation Visited NCBI

On Sep 4th, 2017, 4-scientist-delegate from Beijing Institute of Genomics (BIG), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), led by Prof. XUE Yongbiao, the director of, have set off from Beijing to National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) in USA for 5-day academic visit, whose other members are director of BIG Data Center BAO Yiming, vice director ZHAO Wenming, and Professor XIAO Jingfa.

Founded in January 2016, BIG Data Center advances life & health sciences by providing open access to a variety of resources, with the aim to translate big data into big discoveries and support activities in both academia and industry, which the delegate devoted for in the trip.

During the visit, Professor XUE has held a constructive talking and discussion with Dr. Dennis Benson, Dr. David Landsman and Dr. Kim Pruitt from NCBI, concerning the views on constructing and maintaining biological databases by big data integration and value-added curation concerned by both parts. The other members of the delegate from BIG also have held wide discussion and exchanged professional opinions of each field.

Regarded as an expressing window for BIG to NCBI, the visit significantly convinced NCBI to believe the rapid development of China's big data field and the strengthening power of our center of BIG in Life & Health BIG Data in China, Asia and the whole world in the future.
