Delegation from Serbian Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation visited BIG (CNCB)

The 7 people delegation headed by Ms. Jelena Begović, the Minister of Serbian Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation (NITRA), with accompany of Ms. Maja Stefanović, the Ambassador to China and officials from both embassies, visited Beijing Institute of Genomics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (China National Center for Bioinformation) on September 13th. Mr. WANG Zhenyu, deputy director of Bureau of International Cooperation CAS, Mr. ZHOU Yu, director of Division of Euro-Asian Affairs, Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China(MOST), and their entourages, were invited to participate in the activities. Dr. YANG Yungui, director of BIG, CAS/CNCB, Dr. ZHAO Wenming, deputy director of BIG CAS/CNCB, received NITRA delegation.

Dr. YANG Yungui welcomed NITRA delegation and gave a brief introduction of the institute. Minister Jelena Begović introduced NITRA and this visit to China. NITRA is responsible for formulating science and technology policies, allocating funds, signing and implementing international cooperation agreements. Currently, NITRA is vigorously expanding cooperation with China in science and technology fields such as bioinformatics, genomic medicine, and agricultural resources.

Subsequently, Drs. BAO Yiming and JIA Peilin introduced achievements in the fields of biological database resources and population cohort research, respectively. Attendees had practical experience sharing and in-depth discussions on the issues such as sharing, utilization, and storage technologies of biological big data, and establishing, genome sequencing, and data analysis of population cohort.

The NITRA delegation toured National Genome Science Data Center (NGDC) office and infrastructure. Both sides jointly expressed the aspiration to promote communication and cooperation in the fields of biological big data and precision medicine. Bothsides expressed their expectation and support for the follow-up scientific and technological cooperation.
