Delegation from Brazilian Academy of Sciences visited China National Center for Bioinformation

A delegation of 8 led by Prof. Helena B. Nader, the president of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) visited the China National Center for Bioinformation (CNCB) in the morning of June 3rd, YANG Yungui, Director of CNCB, ZHAO Wenming, Deputy director of CNCB, representatives of research fellows and personnel from the administrative departments participated in the discussion.

On behalf of CNCB, YANG Yungui extended a warm welcome to the delegation of ABC and led the delegation to have a quick look of the computing cluster of the center and the sand table model of Zhangjiakou campus.

 At the meeting, Prof. HAN Dali introduced the development history of the center and it's transformation from a research institute to the National Center, the functions of each division of CNCB, and showed the construction of the center's data resource system and international cooperation network, as well as the construction progress of Zhangjiakou campus. 

Prof. SONG Shuhui introduced the "International Biodiversity and Health Big Data Alliance" (BHBD) which was initiated by CNCB in 2018, she showed in detail the progress made by the alliance in personnel exchange, training, organizing international conferences and project cooperation in the past few years. 

President Helena Nader gave a brief introduction on the history, mission, function, vision and international partners of ABC, emphasizing that the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Sciences will carry out cooperation in many fields after renewing the MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MoU) in 2023. She said that Brazil and China have been a good cooperation partner for 50 years, in the future, it is expected more in-depth and practical cooperation being carried out through exchange of scholars, joint workshops and joint calls for research projects. At the same time, she hoped that the younger generation of scientists would be more involved in the cooperation. ABC would open up more possibilities for cooperation with CNCB. Subsequently, the two sides conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on possible areas of cooperation, such as agriculture, biodiversity, biobank, etc.
