Delegation from Mahidol University Visits China National Center for Bioinformation
On November 12, a delegation led by Professor Piyamitr Sritara, President of Mahidol University in Thailand, visited the China National Center for Bioinformation (CNCB). The delegation was received by CNCB Director YANG Yungui, Deputy Director ZHAO Wenming, along with representatives of researchers and administrative staff.
The visit began with a tour led by Deputy Director ZHAO Wenming, during which the delegation viewed the Center’s supercomputer cluster and a sand table model of the Zhangjiakou Campus. Mr. ZHAO introduced CNCB’s infrastructure as well as its data storage and computing capabilities.
During the subsequent meeting, Director YANG Yungui extended a warm welcome to the delegation and expressed his hope to deepen collaboration building on the existing partnership. Professor SONG Shuhui, Head of the Bioinformatics Service Department, then provided an overview of CNCB’s development—from its origins as a research institute to its current status as a national center—and updated the guests on the progress of the Zhangjiakou Campus construction. She also elaborated on the Center’s data resource system and introduced the International Big Data Alliance for Biodiversity and Health (BHBD), launched by CNCB in 2018. Professor SONG highlighted the Alliance’s recent achievements in personnel exchanges, training programs, international conferences, and project collaborations, and shared insights into CNCB’s expanding international cooperation network and future development strategies.
In response, Professor Piyamitr Sritara gave a brief introduction to Mahidol University. With a history of 137 years, the university holds a pivotal position in Thailand. He expressed interest in establishing long-term cooperation with CNCB and hopes to send more students and researchers for further study and training to strengthen Mahidol University’s expertise in bioinformatics.
Both sides showed strong interest in signing a memorandum of understanding on international cooperation and agreed to further advance collaboration in areas such as personnel exchanges, joint training, and biological data sharing.
